I don’t think I could adequately express what those days were like…and unless you have been through it, you can’t quite understand. It was tumultuous, scary, and a huge shock. And a TREMENDOUS loss to this community.
The aftermath of rumour and speculation, lack of certainty, and the prolonged failure to deliver accurate, empathetic information to the school community was harmful. At the very least, failure to follow-up with the community to provide appropriate psychological supports (likely due to lack of funding) was an significant oversight. The opportunity to document the effects of the fire on the school population has been lost.
